Packaging and labelling from China for Gulf shelves
The product can be perfect and still be refused by a retailer or held at customs because of the label. A briefing guide.
- Send final print-ready files; do not let the factory design your labels.
- Check Arabic text with a native speaker before printing.
- Every product size needs its own barcode.
- Mark cartons clearly for warehouses and customs.
Packaging and labels made in China have to work in Gulf stores and pass Gulf rules. Getting this wrong is one of the most common, and most avoidable, import problems.
What to brief
| Item | Check |
|---|---|
| Arabic text | Required information in Arabic, checked by a native speaker |
| Country of origin | Shown as required, for example "Made in China" |
| Barcodes | GS1 barcode per product and size |
| Product information | Ingredients, materials, warnings, dates as relevant |
| Importer details | Name and address where required |
| Carton marks | Product code, quantity, weights, carton numbers |
Print files
- Send print-ready files with fonts outlined and colours specified.
- Ask for a printed proof or photo of the first print before mass production.
- Arabic text can break when files are edited on systems without the right fonts. Check the printed result.
Retail-ready
If you sell to supermarkets, ask buyers about their shelf-ready packaging and carton requirements before you order.

Frequently asked questions
Do products sold in the UAE need Arabic labels?
Many product types require Arabic labelling. Check the rules for your product category.
Can the factory design my packaging?
Some will, but it is safer to send your own print-ready files and approve proofs.
Why does Arabic text break in print files?
Arabic needs correct fonts and right-to-left support. Files edited without them can show disconnected letters.
